Here in quebec, the government started public based daycare system where a parent pays 7$ a day for service and the government pays 18 dollars back to the home based daycare provider.
Of course there are tremendous amounts of rules and regulations to follow and certified training to attend.
I read in many websites that people are finding that running a home based daycare service is the cats meow. Well.. In this province a lot can make the cat run.
First let's take into consideration that the quotas imposed by the goverment is a maximum of 6 kids. in these 6 only 2 must be under 18 months and of course any child under the age of 6 living with you count to reduce this quota.
Here's a quick example of a mother of 2 wanting to live off running a daycare service from home.
Eligability of a maximum of 4 kids. and only 1 under 18 months as she has 1 of her own who is 14 months. She decided not to adhere to the government program so she charges 20$ a day for operations from 7:30 AM to 5:45 PM for a total of 10.25 Open for business hours. with a total of 6 kids this makes a Whomping 80$ a day. We have not in this deducted taxes, food, heating, laundry, supplies, Crafts supplies... which sum up to about 1500$ a month. We did not in this deduct either the extra hours spent for cleaning, administrative work and general preparation.
We made an excel spreadsheet to caculate all this and bottom lined the operation to bring in a huge 1.56$ / Hour of open business. For a yearly total of... 14966.64$. and then comes tax time.
Now I scroll back to those websites and laugh... This is real life, be carefull what you read on the web.
